To make solid venture investments, a CVC needs to be able to think and act independently of the more entrenched ideas that a parent company might have. And though returning capital is important, it’s not the only thing that matters—large companies also expect strategic gains, whether that’s new technology or a new product geared towards the company’s customers. “More than 70 new CVC units started in 2023, and the number of corporate venture capital organizations grew 10x over the last decade,” said Sneha Shah, EVP and head of new business ventures at SEI, via email. Relational Model in DBMS

relational database design

The relational model itself reduces data redundancy via a process known as normalization. As noted earlier, a customer table should only log unique records of customer information versus duplicating this information for multiple transactions. A relational database is a type of database that organizes data into rows and columns, which collectively form a table where the data points are related to each other. Big and small organizations alike use relational databases to store, manage, and analyze critical information. ” A relational database organizes data in predefined relationships, letting you easily understand how your data is connected. Any set of attributes that allows us to identify unique rows (tuples) in a given relationship is known as super keys.

Design Patterns for Relational Databases

It’s one thing to store unsorted data on a machine, but it’s much more complicated to design systems that allow you to add, retrieve, sort, and otherwise manage that data in consistent, practical ways. The need for a logical framework for storing and organizing data led to a number of proposals for how to harness computers for data management. In order to perform any of these tasks, though, the DBMS must have some kind of underlying model that defines how the data are organized.

Each product here has a ‘product_id’ field, coloured red in the image above. Every record in every table in your database has to have an attribute (or combination of attributes) which identifies it uniquely — this is known as the primary key. Train students with how to convert a conceptual entity relationship model to a relational model. Relational databases are a way of storing and managing data in software development.

Stored procedures

Let’s say your content marketing team requires that timestamps for video files be noted in milliseconds, and each asset is assigned an eight-character alphanumeric code. If the video files were noted in seconds instead of milliseconds and then entered into the company database, it could create a major snag in video production—and a mess for a database administrator to clean up later. A well-designed database maintains data integrity by implementing the processes and standards proposed during the design phase. Suppose you have a database that stores information about products, such as name, description, price, etc. You want to keep track of the changes made to the product information over time, and be able to revert to previous versions if needed.

Popular Topics

relational database design

In a "class roster" database, a teacher may teach zero or more classes, while a class is taught by one (and only one) teacher. In a "company" database, a manager manages zero or more employees, while an employee is managed by one (and only one) manager. In a "product sales" database, a customer may place many orders; while an order is placed by one particular customer.

Discussions of the ethical and sociocultural ramifications of data are completely absent from this text. The examples used the text are mostly fairly typical, in the business-world and course-management domains. One list of books used in an example does include a novel called “Incubus Dreams,” which is not something I would have included. Text avoids using gender as an example of a binary field, which is nice. There's no section of the text that specifically touches on ethics or that connects database design to a larger context.

A well-designed database is easier to maintain, ensures better data consistency and is cost-effective in terms of disk storage space. As the designer, I’m tasked with determining how data elements correlate and what information needs to be stored. Finally, relational databases make it easy to scale data by simply adding rows, columns, or entire tables without changing the overall database structure. Relational database management systems (RDBMS) are a more advanced subset of DBMS, handling relational databases. Relational database systems use a model that organizes data into tables of rows (also called records or tuples) and columns (also called attributes or fields).

How can taking online courses help me learn database design?‎

You can use versioning to store each update to the product information as a new version or snapshot in the database, along with the timestamp, user ID, and other relevant information. This way, you can see the history and evolution of the product information and restore any version if needed. Suppose you have a web application that queries a database server for product information. You can cache some of the query results in the local memory or disk of the web server, so that subsequent requests for the same data can be served faster without hitting the database server again. It’s very crucial to understand the requirements of our application so that you can think in productive terms. And imply appropriate integrity constraints to maintain the data integrity & consistency.

Tutorial Series: How To Use SQL

DRDA enables network connected relational databases to cooperate to fulfill SQL requests.[25][26]The messages, protocols, and structural components of DRDA are defined by the Distributed Data Management Architecture. Since 1989, Adrienne has worked as an educator and gained extensive experience developing and delivering business and technology curriculum to post-secondary students. During that time, she ran a successful software development business. In the business, she worked as an IT professional in a variety of senior positions including project manager, database designer, administrator and business analyst. Recently she has been exploring a wide range of technology-related tools and processes to improve delivery methods and enhance learning for her students. The content includes all key components and topics about traditional database management systems.

Suppose you have a web application that allows users to perform various operations on their accounts, such as login, logout, update profile, change password, etc. You can create an audit log that records each operation performed by each user, along with the timestamp, IP address, browser type, and other relevant information. This way, you can keep track of the user activities and identify any suspicious or malicious behavior. Relational databases use a language called SQL (Structured Query Language) to create, manipulate, and query data. SQL allows you to perform operations such as inserting, updating, deleting, and selecting data from tables.

It is still available under an open-source license, with the addition of different proprietary licenses. In this article, we will cover the structure of relational databases, how they work, and the advantages and disadvantages of using them. We will also use examples to illustrate how relational databases organize data.

When you have a properly designed database, it’s easy to maintain, improves data consistency and cost-effective in terms of disk storage space. The responsibility lies with the database designer to decide how the data elements correlate and what data must be stored. Each row in a table is identified using a unique key, called a primary key. This primary key can be added to another table, becoming a foreign key. The primary/foreign key relationship forms the basis of the way relational databases work.

For increased security, the system design may grant access to only the stored procedures and not directly to the tables. Fundamental stored procedures contain the logic needed to insert new and update existing data. More complex procedures may be written to implement additional rules and logic related to processing or selecting the data. Explore the fundamentals of database design with our comprehensive courses.

But if you choose to go heavy, make sure you lighten the mood with bright furnishings. The unapologetically maximalist home of French lighting designer Marie-Lise Féry features plenty of unexpected color combos. We especially love how she used curtains in pistachio (a textile by Métaphores) and dusty pink (a Kvadrat fabric) hues to pick up the colors in the rest of the room. Add Blinds

The Centaure patterned curtains by Pierre Frey, inspired by shapes and colors of the Constructivism art movement, are defined by an eye-catching, geometric blue and yellow print. Adding unique, vivid visual interest to the space, the contrasting color combination is further enhanced by the blue rug, yellow coffee table and scatter cushions. “I recommend choosing curtains which complement the color of your walls to make your room feel much more open and brighter,” Ivo adds. Ivo also says hanging your curtains at ceiling height, rather than window height, adds an element of drama to your space.

If your living room is need of a dark, neutral curtain to ground the rest of your décor, these Sun Zero light blocking ones are perfect for you. With so many different types of curtains available, knowing where to start can feel overwhelming. Nothing beats statement accents like a lime green sofa and curtains to make a design scheme shine. Often, the many choices get confusing when figuring out different sizes, materials, styles, how and where to hang them, and hardware.

Simple Living Room Curtain Ideas to Perfect Your Space

‘The panels should coordinate with the other fabrics in the room, and provide softness to the space,’ adds Maggie. The use of multiple curtains can only create an elevated feeling of texture and softness in the space, but they can be used to create a layered design with a mix of colors, patterns and styles. Featuring a subtle geometric print, this curtain design shows that modern curtain ideas do not always have to be big, bright and bold, rather, many spaces benefit from a more refined, understated look. In this tranquil white bedroom, the softness of the white sheer curtains enhances the calming sleep space, creating a light and airy feel that is restful and full of inviting natural light. Add visual interest to your living room by pairing different textures and colors together.

Create the illusion of more space with floor-length curtains

They have built-in metal rings at the top to easily glide along the rod and eliminate the need for curtain rings. Grommet curtains are a great pick for a clean and modern aesthetic and make for easy care since taking them on and off for washing is quick and simple given that there are no rings. Treat sliding doors in the living room as you would floor-to-ceiling windows and add privacy with floor-length curtain panels on either side. Take the doors’ width into account when selecting curtain panels and if needed, hang multiple panels on each side to ensure full coverage when you close the curtains.

Window Treatment Ideas for Other Rooms

The best living room curtain styles are the ones that provide the light you need and the privacy you want, in a style that complements your interior design. Curtain ideas are one of the most popular window treatment ideas for the home, seen as an essential feature by many. When planning the curtains for an interior design, of course there are many practical features that need to be considered, such as the type of curtain and how to measure for curtains. However, choosing curtains should also be a fun and creative process where you can explore beautiful texture, pattern, color and exciting modern curtain design. You can elevate the appearance of your living room curtains by installing them behind crown molding.

Here in this dreamy Maui home, he worked to bring the lush tropical colors inside in both the window treatments and in the bed curtains, which are in a JAB Anstoetz fabric. If you’re stuck with tiny windows, use curtains to create the illusion of size. This look, in a Tudor-style home sensitively reimagined by ELLE DECOR A-List designer Frances Merrill, could have easily gone over-the-top cottagecore. But funky silhouettes and neutral, floor-grazing curtains positioned high above the windows not only bring the look down to earth but flaunt those gorgeous timber ceilings.

This living room curtain design not only adds sophistication but also creates a tailored appearance. Opt for curtains that harmonize with your living room curtain ideas and the room's layout. L-shaped curtains beautifully frame non-standard window arrangements, adding a custom touch. Elevate the room's visual appeal by installing curtains that hang from ceiling height.

It’s also a great way to combat any drafts that run through a large home in the winter months. Trends like cottagecore have seen the heading style – made with stiffened fabric that covers the top of the curtain – return in a big way. For rooms where a window stretches wall to wall, have the curtain rail curve inwards so you can pull the curtain right to the side, giving an uninterrupted view. Perfectly fitted curtains will elevate any living room, and these are made to the exact length of your choosing.

living room curtain design

Having a neutral color scheme in your living room doesn’t have to be boring. Your guests will appreciate your sleek and stylish room decor when you include neutral curtains with taupe, caramel, or rose-colored shades. If the ceiling goes two stories or higher, it may be too tall for you to install living room curtains on your own, so hiring a professional installer is ideal. If you're having a hard time deciding between two curtain colors, why not try both? A color block design allows you to feature one main color and another as a smaller border along the top or bottom, like this subtle option with neutrals in a small living room designed by Studio DB.

Once you've selected a style, consider a color and pattern that matches your overall design aesthetic — whether you'd like your curtains to act as a focal point or blend into the background. Sheer curtains are a timeless choice for any living room design, as they provide just enough privacy while still letting natural light into the space. You can also layer sheer curtains with blackout panels or other heavier fabrics for added privacy and insulation to create the perfect curtain combination for the living room. To complement your curtains and create a cohesive look, consider choosing a living room colour combination that coordinates with your window treatments. Make your ceiling look sky-high by hanging living room curtains at ceiling height.

Ranging from simple to striking, floor-length curtains are a popular choice for the living room. That might mean off-white sheers that allow natural light to pour into your space, moody blackout curtains ideal for movie night or something in between, like patterned light-filtering drapes. We've included modern curtain designs showcasing grommet panels, fabric blinds and Roman shades, plus more traditional treatments, like valances and balloon shades.

The Old Dark House review James Whales horror classic still chills Horror films

old dark house

A recurring theme in the testimony of David Pecker, the former publisher of The National Enquirer, has been how people around Donald J. Trump lived in fear of his wrath. When he walked into Mr. Trump’s office, he saw Sean Spicer, Reince Priebus, Mike Pompeo and James Comey. Mr. Comey was the director of the F.B.I. at the time and would later publicly turn against Mr. Trump. Mr. Priebus was the chairman of the Republican National Committee and soon to be Mr. Trump’s chief of staff. Mr. Spicer would become White House press secretary, and Mr. Pompeo would be director of the Central Intelligence Agency.

Cross-examination continues Friday. More names may drop.

So far, we have heard her describe her role with Trump, as well as the fact that he had contact entries for both Karen McDougal and Stormy Daniels, two of the women who claim to have had affairs with him. The prosecutor appeared to be trying to use that information to establish that Trump could have plausibly had contact with both. She also got Graff to confirm she saw Daniels at Trump Tower, a visit that Trump's lawyer later suggested could have been about appearing on "The Apprentice." During their cross-examination of Mr. Pecker, Mr. Trump’s lawyers set out to show that such deals were “standard operating procedure” in the tabloid business, and that only about half of all stories purchased made it to print.

David Pecker recounted a Trump Tower meeting where the president-elect offered his thanks.

Mr. Pecker said that he and The Enquirer sought to help Mr. Trump’s campaign through catch-and-kill deals to suppress negative news about him and through positive headlines that promoted him. She also told prosecutors that she saw Ms. Daniels at Trump Tower. A lawyer for Mr. Trump later suggested that her visit could have been connected to an appearance on “The Apprentice,” his reality show.

Prosecutors also called Gary Farro, a banker who helped Mr. Cohen open an account that he used for the $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels. One of the defendant’s lawyers, Emil Bove, pushed Mr. Pecker about the real purpose of the deal with Ms. McDougal, whether her top priority was money and whether the agreement had other benefits for her. Mr. Pecker conceded that dozens of articles were published under her name. Your dog deserves the world—and an opulent dog house is a great place to start. Mr. Pecker said that at the same meeting, Mr. Trump thanked him for purchasing stories for him during the campaign. The president-elect also inquired about Karen McDougal, the former Playboy model whose story of an affair Mr. Pecker’s company had suppressed in exchange for $150,000. Mr. Pecker suggested that Mr. Cohen buy Ms. Daniels's story instead, leading to the hush-money deal, repayments and records at issue in this trial. Mr. Pigott, however, is drawn to the history of the legal system before the 20th century and how it evolved through its buildings. The first stop on the tours he runs is a sidewalk nearby with glass blocks embedded in it, through which it is possible to see the excavations of a courthouse built by the Dutch in the colonial era. “Now, when I arrive at the expanse of Foley Square midway through the walk, I can point to something truly remarkable — three different courthouses where the same former U.S. president has been on trial,” he said.

Philip and William drag Morgan into the kitchen while Rebecca flees to her bedroom. Saul steals a burning branch from the fireplace and sets fire to a curtain before Roger awakes. They fight and fall off a landing; Saul is killed and Roger injured. Morgan breaks out of the kitchen and returns to the main room. He frees Margaret and Gladys from the closet before taking Saul's body upstairs.

The film has also been released on DVD in Spain, retitled La vieja casa oscura, both separately and as part of a William Castle box set. Each of the relatives is required to return to the dilapidated mansion before midnight each evening or forfeit his share of the family fortune. First Agatha Femm, Casper's mother, is discovered with her knitting needles stuck in her neck. Casper's twin brother, Jasper, is the next victim, followed by Roderick, the head of the family.

But Mr. Trump’s lawyer Todd Blanche said his client’s actions were “run-of-the-mill” business. Nondisclosure agreements are common among the wealthy and famous, he said, and influencing an election is no crime. Prosecutors sketched a secret scheme to influence the 2016 election. They said Mr. Trump directed men in his inner circle to suppress negative stories about him and then agreed to cover up the payment to Ms. Daniels after taking the White House. It was later paired on disc with Mr. Sardonicus and included in two separate William Castle box sets. The original disc was later reissued as a DVD-R burn-on demand release from Sony Pictures Choice Collection.

He has denied the charges and having sex with Ms. Daniels and Ms. McDougal; the former president could face probation or prison if convicted. The testimony followed multiple days of questioning of David Pecker, the former publisher of the The National Enquirer. A key witness for the prosecution, Mr. Pecker described his involvement in suppressing stories that could have damaged the 2016 presidential candidacy of Mr. Trump, who is charged with 34 felonies.

He has previously said he did so to ensure his wife would not know about the transaction. About two weeks before the 2016 presidential election, he wired the payment to Keith Davidson, a lawyer for Ms. Daniels. When trapped in a thunderstorm, any potential shelter should come with relief. Of course, not if that shelter is the Femm estate with its Boris Karloff butler and family of mysterious psychotics huddled within. The titular Old Dark House looks like any other country home you’ve seen on postcards. It’s a collection of passages and tiny boxes, but hidden behind every door is a secret where whispers echo like screams.

For Mr. Pigott, 64, who has written a book about the history of the city’s courthouses, the real significance is what it says about the status of a few blocks of Manhattan as a nexus. He pointed out that Mr. Trump’s civil fraud case and defamation case also both played out this year in courthouses within spitting distance of the criminal trial. In 1957, Universal Studios lost the rights to the original story,[5] and a remake was released in 1963, directed by William Castle and co-produced with Hammer Film Productions. For many years, the original version was considered a lost film and gained a tremendous reputation as one of the pre-eminent gothic horror films.

William goes to help Rebecca close a window, leaving Margaret alone. Morgan, now drunk, attacks her and chases her up the stairs to Philip, who is coming down with the lamp. Philip throws the lamp at Morgan, knocking him down the stairs.

Mr. Farro spent an hour on the stand being questioned by prosecutors before the trial was adjourned for the day, ending the first week of testimony in the Lower Manhattan courtroom. The payment to Ms. Daniels was made through a limited-liability company called Essential Consultants, which Mr. Cohen set up through First Republic. Mr. Farro said that Mr. Cohen called him while he was golfing on his day off and said he needed to create an L.L.C. for a real estate consulting company right away. Their questions over three days sought to establish that he and his publication suppressed negative stories about Mr. Trump while both promoting him in The Enquirer and attacking his Republican primary rivals. Mr. Cohen set up the account in October 2016 and funded it from his home equity line of credit at First Republic.

Simple and elegant flooring like timber, cork or tile creates an excellent care-free basis as these materials do not stain and clean easily. Sunny days by the coast can come with almost blinding whites as light reflects on the rolling waves and sandy beaches. Fortunately, you can control the level of brightness while layering different white tones. A mix of the lightest shades, combined with minimal patterns and color, will give a beach-themed interior design a pristine look.

Add Abstract Art or Patterns

Done right, this relaxing trend can make a home feel like a high-end island getaway. Clear from the name, coastal interior design is a style inspired and influenced by the coast. “Coastal interior design is rooted in drawing inspiration from the scenic landscape to bring the natural beauty of the surroundings in,” says Hamwey. “Earth tones and natural textures must work together to create a design that is harmonious with its surroundings,” she says. French coastal design is perfect for those who admire ornate antiques, have a passion for an artistic aesthetic but also want their home to have the relaxing atmosphere of a seaside getaway. You can update your coastal interior design by adding a detailed chandelier or a delicate table with curved legs similar to the French baroque style.

Expert Tips for Getting the Beach House Interior Design Style

Glass and wood are a classic combination in beach house interior design. Here, a cut log coffee table forms a statement as the clear top lets us see its texture and detail. The décor also evokes a sense of the outdoors in this coastal interior design. Light wood floors and furniture are still desirable in modern coastal interior designs today.

"Lighting is also a great way to bring in elemental lights that look like a lighthouse or that has basket weaving that can drive a nautical feel without being too over-the-top," says Rebuck. A contemporary beach house doesn’t just mean current trends; it signifies a timeless approach to constantly evolving design. The design deliberately maximizes natural light, allowing you to live in harmony with the sun’s rhythm and the calming ebb and flow of the ocean.

Soften With Jewel Tones

Expect clean lines and contemporary aesthetics contributing to a minimalist yet welcoming ambiance. Architects often incorporate smart home technology and sustainable features such as solar panels and water recycling systems to complement your eco-friendly lifestyle. Avoid being cliché with portraying pictures and artwork related to waterscapes. It comes across as a room trying too hard to be coastal in the broader sense of design. Although you may find attracted to showcasing ocean-inspired realistic artwork, you must make it an effort to imbibe abstract art into the scene. Simple items like distressed furniture and weathered wood are all excellent directions.

Built-In Shelves to Display Beach Interior Décor

The secluded beaches and the vast expanse of the ocean inspire designs that emphasize harmony with nature, a concept you might want to reflect in your home. Building in coastal areas means you’ll have to consider the aggressive environment your home will face. Saltwater corrosion is a significant concern, and choices like stainless steel or specially coated materials can help mitigate damage. "Having a bar in a prominent gathering room immediately puts people at ease," says Christopher Spitzmiller. Plus, whether it's a stylish bar cart or a built-in cocktail station, it tends to cut down on hosting duties—and we're all for that. Spice yours up with local art, quirky curiosities, and vintage glassware.

You can channel the Greek islands with a minimalist color palette with white walls and bright blue textiles, or use moodier shades of blue-gray with dark or weathered woods depending on your taste and style. Coastal rooms often feature a color palette that is reminiscent of the colors of the seashore such as pale blues, greens, and shades of white and sandy beige. Natural materials such as weathered wood and natural textures such as rattan, jute, wicker, or rattan complement a coastal room, which may also feature warm gold metal accents that mimic the sun.

Beach house interiors: 18 ways to get the coastal look

Avoid getting trapped with traditional prints like fishes and boats for your upholstery. If you genuinely want to make your space more modern but contemporary, try getting some simple prints like plaids and paisleys with a cool hue. This will result in your furniture looking more in sync with current trends and paying homage to the coastal sense of design. Sticking with a palette with light coastal colors accompanied by minimal accents can help make your bathroom a coastal masterpiece. We naturally ignore the thoroughly used space when we undertake remodeling projects. We can choose to avoid making this error by giving the bathrooms a healthy makeover as well.

Higher ceilings and light walls will also make your interior feel well lit and airy. Bright pinks from coral, green from surrounding foliage and burnt orange from the sun make the seaside irresistible. Add a pop of color into your home with modern beach house décor and textiles. Coastal interior design trends are playful and flexible when it comes to patterns. In a beachy home, you can easily swap a scatter cushion for a brightly colored accent cushion with a trendy print. But the elegance of the Hampton’s style living space is better matched to paisleys, geometrics, and brocade.

Case blends modern and traditional elements with clean lines and a tranquil color palette to create comfortable, stylish homes. The team of designers and project managers tackle everything from interior design refreshes to home remodels, devising unique environments no matter the scope of the project. Betsy Burnham blends classic East Coast style with a California cool sensibility, creating elegant yet inviting interiors for clients in Los Angeles and across the country. Burnham Design is a full-service interior design, taking on everything from kitchen and bath design to furnishing and space planning.

What’s more, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces is easier with less clutter. Coastal interiors aren't all about blue stripes and miniature ships in bottles. You can create all the beach house interiors by layering up lots of different fabrics and materials. Rugs, cushions, baskets, wall hangings can all be incorporated into your current space to create that relaxed, laid back feel that the coastal look is all about. Miami-based firm James Duncan offers an array of services to its discerning and worldly clientele. In addition to interior architecture and design, the full-service studio is known for its custom furniture, one-of-a-kind wallpapers and murals, and finely crafted millwork, giving each client a bespoke interior.

Bathrooms prove an excellent opportunity to try out different materials and shades. Although the base values have remained the same, there are visually striking changes as the design is incorporated in different country areas. You can observe darker wood stains in north-eastern homes, whereas the southern getaways have a very light shade of wood to combat the humidity and salinity in the air. Whitewashed pecky wood paneling set in a herringbone pattern cozies up the walls behind open shelving in this summer house. This renovated breakfast bar, designed by Becca Casey of Becca Interiors, surprises with a serene aesthetic that showcases the stunning light of its seaside location.

Top 10 Carnival Cruise Forums in 2024

carnival cruise forum

We have embarked on CCL ships, walked through the empty casino and the smell of smoke could knock you off your feet. They definitely need to work on their filtration systems. We cruised end of October and had pretty much same experience. People on  this cruise were very nice OR extremely rude.

Carnival Freedom Roll Calls

Never had that experience on any ship/cruise before. Also, a lot of them were first time cruisers -- I knew this because the comedians always asked the audience, and they were always surprised to hear the answers from the crowd. And, (I don't know if it's correlated), based on what I saw, almost all the first time cruisers were black, at least on this ship. If this is a Vista class ship they dropped the ball in the buffet because the other ships are way better. We just came back from a 10-day cruise on Venezia out of Manhattan.

I posted my review and it’s waiting for the censor to approve, but I thought to provide a few more practical tips to folks on the boards here. Search for or add a roll call for any sailing on the Sunshine. I thought the ship was beautiful and the food was pretty good.

Top 10 Carnival Cruise Forums in 2024

I think some of the passengers were more rude and irritated because of the lines unfortunately. Will never cruise from NY again, although we live on Long Island - an absolute fiasco!! We've sailed for 30 years and mostly in winter out of different Florida ports. Hated having so many colder sea days (although we were actually lucky with good weather in the 60's, so we could be outside up on Serenity deck those days).

Additional Forumsⓘ

The prime rib was full of ugly chunks of fat and was unappetizing enough to ruin the meal on its own. Yesterday’s lunch at JiJi’s (free) was carmelized pineapple pork noodles. There was one small piece each of pineapple, red pepper, and broccoli on the top of the large bowl of bland noodles, along with five small pieces of pork.

I am just making an observation and trying to come up with an explanation why some people would consider the guests on Venezia "rude". @pe4all @kona_wahine Regarding the clientele of the ship, I don't think it's fair to simply say "New Yorkers are rude". A big factor is that people that live in big cities (NY or Miami) tend to be louder and are used to smaller personal space. I had a friend in college who came from a different country. He was told "back off, you perv" when all he did was standing maybe a foot away from the middle aged lady in front of him at a supermarket checkout line.

Carnival Cruise Lines

That was quite a turn off for me, but I was warned on TripAdvisor before hand that NY’ers have a tend to be rude, just the way of life there. 🤷‍♀️ casino smoke was horrible and worse when they tried to clean it with an overwhelming smell of air freshener. Embarkation was actually pretty good for us, debarking was a bit ridiculous. We had the shuttle to JFK and what a mess out there trying to find the bus! We are currently on the Vista, experiencing our absolute worst cruise out of ninety-five on different cruise lines. I thought people were exaggerating about inedible and disgusting food, but now understand exactly what they were saying.

10 of 27,677 Carnival Cruise Reviews

However, selecting the right solutions takes preparation and research. This guide outlines five areas of consideration to help you find the right fit. A place to post any severe weather that may effect cruising. A place for everyone to introduce themselves.

General Cruising Topics

They looked like garnishes instead of ingredients actually listed in the description of the dish. I was served an Emeril’s salad with peppercorn dressing in the description, absolutely dry, without a drop of dressing. When I requested salad dressing, I was eventually brought a container of garlic mayonnaise.

There have been cutbacks on all five lines, but none come even close to what Carnival has done. This ships design is perfect for northern cruises, as we all know she was designed for another line and has been “adapted” to CCL. They have a strong amount of experience sailing out of NYC and also sailing out of there year round. Overall, I am sure they are pleased with cabins sales, but it comes down to revenue optimization. I wouldn’t suggest this ship for anyone who loves spending most of their time on the lido deck because it is small and incredibly stuffy and hot when the roof is closed.

The poblano and corn soup was a lukewarm and thin, like chicken broth thickened with potato flakes and has four carrot slivers on top - no peppers, potatoes, corn, or flavor. Mushroom soup pretty much the same, very watered down. By the beginning of day three, instead of hunger as lunch and dinner times approached, I feel my stomach just clench and a feeling of dread. Only the second cruise ever where I was ready to go home days before the end of the cruise. My cruises have been about 50% Royal Caribbean and 30% Carnival, with about four each on Princess, Celebrity, and MSC. We have also cruised on Norwegian three times but will no longer book with them.

Even though NY is our homeport, we have waited on booking Venezia due to some of the problems Mieng mentioned. We were hoping they would straighten out the embarkation/debarkation issues by now. As far as Kona_wahine's comment on NYers tending to be rude - not all of us are - lol! We have had the same issues with some Miami cruises. As far as smoke on CCL ships go - I entirely agree. Wish they would make the casino non-smoking, as the smell does tend to build up and drift to other parts of the ship.

Obviously that lady preferred to have more personal space and felt that he was encroaching to the point of being offensive. Sept embarkation was a smooth process - long, but smooth. There were 8 of us (not traveling together, just 8 random passengers) who all had pre-paid for JFK shuttle. It was pouring down 🌧 no shuttle to be found and nobody to help. The driver for the LGA shuttle was trying to help and eventually learned no shuttle was ordered so "they" were working on it.

They were also correct about the horrible design of the Liquid Lounge, and of the smoke. We are booked on the Venezia in January 2025 but will be canceling it as soon as we get home. Thank you to all of you who have posted here for confirming our concerns. I enjoyed Venezia despite a few of its flaws. I planned on writing a review but the holidays are taking all my time at the moment. I’ll be sailing her again in February and I hope it’s at least an equally enjoyable experience.
